The Sporting Life 10K

BY barry hillier

There are many things that people have come to know about me. I’m very passionate and very committed to my family, friends, colleagues and clients. I’m also someone who feels deeply that charitable and community involvement is both important and necessary. I’ve been involved with the East Kootenay Environmental Society, Princess Margaret Hospital, Children’s Wish Foundation and the Santa Claus Parade. Another thing that people know about me is that I’ve struggled with weight issues for a long time. It’s a hard thing to lose weight as many people already know. In 2012, I’ve decided to make a commitment that will help merge many of the important aspects of my life together. I’ve decided to run the Sporting Life 10K race on May 13th in support of Camp Ooch and to get healthy. I need to concentrate on family, friends, colleagues and clients by staying healthy. I think the race and training for the race will help get me closer to my goal. I’m also asking family, friends, colleagues and clients to sponsor me. I’ve set a goal to raise $100/ pound that I lose and my goal is 25 pounds. If I reach my goal, I will donate $2,500 to Camp Ooch. If you would like to donate, you can find my page at Why should you donate? The real reason isn’t to support my health goal. Any donation would be moral support and encouragement towards that goal. The real reason that I encourage you to support my effort in the Sporting Life 10K race is to support Camp Ooch.

Take a look at this video and you will understand why…

Last year the Sporting Life 10K raised $1,300,000 for Camp Ooch. This supported hundreds of children with Cancer and provided a tremendous break in their lives to allow each child to be a child, enjoying a carefree summer at camp, just like any other child. In committing to the Sporting Life 10K, I’m committing to raising funds for a great cause and helping children enjoy their time at Summer Camp. I’m also committing to getting healthy for myself and my friends, family, colleagues and clients. Lastly, I’d encourage you to register for the Sporting Life 10K and join me as it would be nice to run as a group. Camp Ooch is a great cause and the Sporting Life 10K is a great race. Please join me on May 13, 2012 and thanks for your support.
