Lucky Us

TIFF is just over, the Queen West Art Crawl ended Monday, Word On The Street is this weekend, and Nuit Blanche is around the corner.

I really love Toronto. I could live in other places, and have. I spend most of my money travelling to other places, but here in Toronto you can always find creativity and people you like to share it with. It may be impossible to get around, our garbage bins are ridiculous, there’s a “war on cars”, perils for pedestrians and overcompensated municipal workers, but I still feel incredibly lucky to live here.

I hope everyone I know votes in the election for Toronto’s next mayor. I can’t endorse, or even comment on any of the candidates. I’m struggling to find one to vote for (if you have any compelling evidence of leadership ability about any of them, please email it to me), but I don’t want to take our amazing one-of-a-kind city for granted. I’m committing to doing my homework, and finding out whose name I can mark with an X.

Please do the same and vote.

    Stuart Thursby says:

I fully agree, and fully intend on voting this mayoral election. Just *a bit* concerned, though, that the candidates seem pretty hell-bent on cutting back. Which makes sense; but how are these arts programs — that are finally kicking some ass — going to fare, when the arts are typically the "un-neccessities" that get thrown under the bus (transit pun unintended) when times get tight? I don't deny the need for better transit (cause no. 1), healthcare, education, police, other public services...but damn I hope the arts don't get decimated.
