Scott White has been providing back end development for Dashboard since April, but as of this month, he’s joined us for good. To commemorate this auspicious occasion (that’s it for the big words, I promise), I’ve been asked to give you the dirt on Scott, who says he went into software engineering so that he wouldn’t have to write. So, in the interest of not torturing you all with bad grammar and a blog post written in binary (lots of 0’s and 1’s), I bring you A Tale of Many Cities – The Scott White Story.
It all started in Ottawa, but even then he wasn’t a one-city guy. With his family being from the East Coast, and much of his family still there, he travelled regularly. When he was 12, his family moved to Hong Kong for 4 years. Because of that, Scott can proudly say that he is able to swear in Cantonese (he’s also fluent in French, but finds that far less impressive). Ultimately his family returned to Canada but that wasn’t the end of his travels. He moved to Kingston where he graduated from Queens U. In Math Engineering, worked in Dublin, Ireland for 2 years, couch surfed in England, and travelled all over Europe. His favourite city is Barcelona.
Fortunately for Dashboard, he returned to Toronto where he now lives with his 2 cats, Bowie & Reese. He says he likes the people and the range of work that he gets to do at Dashboard, and that he’s thrilled to be a permanent member of our clan. He still loves to travel though – he’s planning a trip to the UK for next year to visit his sister (the travel thing must run in the family), and his dream is to climb the Inca Trail and see Machu Picchu. Maybe when he gets back we can convince him to write a post about it. Does anyone know where I can get a good code-to-English dictionary?
